A large natural harbour in the Orkney Islands, Scotland, famed as the resting place of the scuttled German High Seas Fleet and one of the premier wreck-diving destinations in the world.
Scapa Flow, sheltered by the Orkney islands of Mainland, Graemsay, Burray, South Ronaldsay and Hoy, served as the UK's chief naval base in both World Wars. On 21 June 1919 the interned German High Seas Fleet was scuttled here; seven vessels remain, including the light cruisers Brummer, Köln, Dresden and Karlsruhe and the battleships König, Kronprinz Wilhelm and Markgraf. In 2001 seven wrecks were scheduled as protected monuments, and in 2025 the whole site was designated a marine protected area.
