F2 and YC21
Also known as: F2 & YC-21 Salvage Barge · F2 and Barge
F2 was a German escort boat built at Kiel in the 1930s; she came into British hands after the war and went down at her mooring during a storm in 1946. When salvors later worked on her, their barge YC21 also foundered in a storm in 1968, a short swim away. The barge sits upright and its hold still contains 20 mm anti-aircraft guns and pipework taken from the F2. The F2 is broken: the bow lies on its port side with its 4.1-inch gun and the anchor chain clearly visible, while the area aft of the bridge was blasted during salvage. The tide does not restrict diving here, and Divernet considers it suitable for divers with entry-level qualifications.
