SMS Karlsruhe

SMS Karlsruhe belonged to the Königsberg class of light cruisers; she was scuttled in 1919 and later heavily blasted by salvors. The damage means her structure is less intact than the other cruisers, but it also lays the machinery and internal features open to view. Divers find the armoured control tower, capstans with their engines, davits, a ladder and a mast on the seabed. Her port side lies only about 12 to 14 metres down, so she is popular as a warm-up dive or as the second, shallower dive of a day on the deeper wrecks. A buoy is usually attached, and Divernet says the tide does not limit when she can be dived.
