Bayern Gun Turrets

Also known as: SMS Bayern

When salvors Cox and Danks lifted the Bayern in 1934, her four 15-inch gun turrets dropped out and stayed behind on the mud. The two eastern turrets, known as Caesar and Dora, are the best preserved and stand several metres proud of the seabed, with hand wheels, hoists, machinery and the ball-bearing ring still in place. Near the seabed divers can enter an armoured gun house and see the gun breech. The western pair, Anton and Bruno, were damaged during a failed first lift and are more broken. A line links the two pairs, which lie roughly 50 metres apart.
