Empire Seaman
Also known as: SS Empire Seaman
The Empire Seaman was a German freighter seized by the Royal Navy and scuttled in East Weddell Sound in June 1940. Salvors later took away her superstructure, bow and stern, yet much of the hull remains on a rocky bottom, with sections above water at low tide. At the stern divers can pass through the tunnel of the propeller shaft, and pieces of mast, valves and pipework lie around the wreck. Steel hawsers to the east may once have tethered the blockships.
