Dyle
Also known as: Doyle
The Dyle was built in 1879 as the Widdrington and was sunk by the Admiralty in October 1914, but she drifted across the tidal race before sinking and never blocked the channel. Her timber decks are gone, so the iron frames form open swim-throughs, and light falls through the many gaps in the hull plating. Her four-bladed propeller at the stern is covered in small plumose anemones. Ballan and cuckoo wrasse, conger eels and large schools of young saithe and pollack live around the wreck. Slack water lasts only around 20 to 30 minutes, after which divers usually drift off into the sound under a delayed surface marker buoy.
