Minieh

The Minieh, built in 1876 as the Alsatia, was scuttled in Kirk Sound in February 1915 and broke in two shortly afterwards. Unlike many blockships she was never removed, although a 1972 survey wrongly reported the hull as gone. Her bow and stern sections lie east to west in the middle of the sound, off the bows of the Thames, with the midships part in a trench of around 20 metres. Survey divers call her a very interesting dive and one of the larger blockship wrecks. The site is best reached by boat.
