HMS Strathgarry

Also known as: Strathgarry

HMS Strathgarry was an Aberdeen steam trawler taken on as a boom defence vessel and lost in July 1915 when the fleet was returning to the anchorage. Recreational divers found her again in the early 1990s; she sits upright, leaning to port, in mid Hoxa Sound. The hull is in good condition, with four big winches once used for boom nets, the wheelhouse frame with the wheel and binnacle, a spare anchor, the rudder and the propeller. A missing plate near the bow may mark the collision damage. Strong tides run in the sound, but slack water brings good visibility over a clean sand and shale seabed.
