UB-116
Also known as: UB116
UB-116 tried to slip into Scapa Flow through Hoxa Sound in October 1918, was picked up by hydrophones and destroyed by shore-controlled mines. She was raised in 1919 and sank again near Pan Hope, and a salvage blast in the 1970s set off torpedoes still on board and scattered much of the hull. The conning tower stands upright and is where the shot line is usually tied. Among plates, pipes and wiring divers can still make out the ballast tanks, the hydroplanes at the stern and a deck gun. A slight to moderate current often runs, which keeps the visibility good and allows a short drift.
