Komodo National Park spans the boundary between East and West Nusa Tenggara provinces in Indonesia and comprises the three main islands of Komodo, Padar, and Rinca along with 26 smaller islands. The park covers about 1,733 km2, of which roughly 60% is marine area. Its waters lie within the Coral Triangle and support extensive fringing and patch coral reefs, along with pelagic species such as whale sharks and manta rays. The park was established in 1980 and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.
