Bonsai

Also known as: One Tree · Lonely Tree · Chinese mound

The lone mangrove on top of the rock gives the site all its names. Along the south and west sides, overhangs, valleys and swim-throughs lie at 20 to 30 m, and some swim-throughs reach 40 m where large red and white sea fans cling to the rock. Emperor sweetlips, Napoleon wrasse, hawksbill turtles and groupers shelter in these structures, and small reef sharks often rest under table corals. A wide coral garden of staghorn and table corals surrounds the island and ends the dive in clouds of anthias. Currents can turn dangerous, and visibility is sometimes limited, so a torch helps.
