Honokohau
Also known as: Honokohau Beach · Manta Ray Bay · Nai'a Bay · Crescent Beach · Dog Beach · Alua Beach · Ray Bay · Rip-off Reef
The reef outside Honokohau Harbor is one of the most popular sites near Kailua-Kona because big animals come close to shore here. Divers see well-developed coral, resident schools of raccoon butterflyfish, goatfish and Heller's barracuda, and garden eels on the sand below the reef. Eagle rays, spinner dolphins, hawksbill turtles and tiger sharks, which come to scavenge fish scraps in the harbor, are all possible. Shore divers cross rough lava to a small sandy beach and must keep clear of the boat channel. North and north-west swells in winter can make the entry difficult.

Vote for the name divers really use. Divers who logged a dive here count double. The votes are counted every night, and the main name only changes when another name has led clearly for a week.
