Manta Alley
Manta Alley consists of rocks and channels inside a bay at the southern end of Komodo, exposed to swell and to cool upwelling from the Indian Ocean. The nutrient-rich water brings mantas to feed and to visit cleaning stations, and divers often see ten or more at once. Away from the mantas the reef holds giant trevally, white-tip and blacktip reef sharks, bumphead parrotfish, sweetlips, snappers and large stingrays. The water is noticeably colder than in the north and the current can be strong, so divers hold position at the cleaning stations rather than chasing the rays.
