Aqaba is Jordan's only stretch of coastline, a roughly 27 km shoreline on the Gulf of Aqaba, offering more than thirty dive sites along fringing coral reefs and wrecks.
Aqaba forms Jordan's sole maritime outlet on the Gulf of Aqaba, the northeastern arm of the Red Sea. Fringing coral reefs extend along the coast toward the Saudi border, offering more than thirty dive sites, including deliberately sunk wrecks such as the Cedar Pride. Part of the coast is protected as the Aqaba Marine Reserve, established in 1997. The Gulf of Aqaba here is noted for high marine biodiversity and unusually high salinity.
