Black Rock

Also known as: Research Station

Divers enter over gravel, follow a sandy bottom to the reef at around 12 m and then choose their depth along broad slopes and valleys. Large lettuce corals, fossil reef pinnacles and big black coral bushes are typical of the site. Turtles are seen often, along with seahorses, frogfish, ornate ghost pipefish, stingrays and morays. Near the shallows the Marine Science Station has placed plates for coral growth research. A current of up to about one knot can run along the reef.
