Lockheed L-1011 TriStar

Also known as: TriStar · Tristar Aircraft

The plane had stood out of service at the airport for years before the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority bought it, dismantled it, moved it to the port and reassembled it for sinking. The cockpit faces the beach at the shallow end and the tail lies deepest. All doors are open, and inside the cabin some seats, the galley and the cockpit instruments remain. Trained wreck divers can exit through the duct of the rear engine. The surrounding seabed is sand and seagrass, so the aircraft is slowly becoming a new reef.
