Milne Bay is a large natural harbor at the southeastern tip of Papua New Guinea, widely known among divers for its muck diving, coral reefs, and pelagic encounters at the heart of the Coral Triangle.
Milne Bay is a sheltered deep-water bay in the far southeastern part of Papua New Guinea, surrounded by the wooded Stirling Range. Milne Bay Province, which gives the diving region its name, extends from Collingwood Bay on the north coast to Orangerie Bay in the south and includes the Trobriand Islands and the D'Entrecasteaux and Louisiade Archipelagos. The area sits between the Solomon and Coral Seas and combines fringing reefs, muck diving, and pelagic species. Alotau, on the northern shore of the bay, is the main gateway town.
