Cobb's Cliff
Cobb's Cliff is a fringing reef at East Cape that rises from very deep water to just a few metres below the surface. One side falls away steeply, while the centre dips into a sandy lagoon, which gives the site an unusual castle-like shape. On the outer edge, fans and sponges grow on healthy coral, and grey reef sharks, hammerheads, mantas and schooling fusiliers are seen in open water. Inside, divers look for rhinopias, leaf scorpionfish, blue ribbon eels and fire gobies, and whitetip sharks and rays rest on the sand.
