Cherie's Reef
Cherie's Reef is an offshore site south of East Cape whose top lies a few metres below the surface, with a broad hard coral area, anemones and clouds of anthias. A slope covered in large gorgonians runs down from it, and some of these fans host pygmy seahorses at comfortable depths. Cleaning stations are visited by coral groupers and sweetlips, and schools of fusiliers stream past in the blue. Napoleon wrasse also appear. Boats choose the sheltered side depending on the current.
