Washing Machine

The Washing Machine is a ride through China Strait, the channel at the southern entrance of Milne Bay that John Moresby named believing it was a short cut to China. Ripping currents, quoted at around 8 knots, carry divers along coral-covered walls in a brief but exhilarating drift. Larger pelagic fish may be seen along the way. Because it lies close to Samarai, liveaboards often combine it with a dive at the Samarai jetty on the same day. It is recommended for experienced divers.
