Iron Bottom Sound is the stretch of water between Guadalcanal, Savo Island and the Nggela Islands that became the resting place for dozens of warships during the WWII Guadalcanal Campaign.
Iron Bottom Sound lies at the southern end of 'The Slot' in the Solomon Islands. During the 1942-43 Guadalcanal Campaign, a series of naval engagements sank over 50 Japanese and Allied vessels in these waters, including cruisers, battlecruisers and destroyers. The site is documented as a wreck-diving destination by specialist resources such as Pacific Wrecks.
