Base 1

Also known as: Base 1 Muck Site

The Seabees repaired warships here in the Second World War, and the bay is still used for ship repairs and as a dumping ground. Divers find artillery shells, steel drums, cables, plane wings and an American landing craft. The cut-off bow section of the heavy cruiser USS Minneapolis also lies here, along with several more recent fishing boats and cargo ships. Critters, large plate corals and juvenile sweetlips live among the debris.
