Sutta a Za' Lisa
Also known as: Sutta za' Lisa · Sutta a'zza Lisa · Zia Lisa
The Sicilian name means the cove below Aunt Lisa's house, after a small ruin at the top of the bay. A canyon starting in the shallows leads out towards the open sea, and nearby a large horizontal fissure coated in orange sponges and cup corals opens onto a vertical drop-off. The wall and the boulder slope below hold many passages and tunnels between about 13 and 26 m, sheltering slipper lobsters, groupers, octopus and many nudibranchs. In a submerged cave at around 9 m lie fragments of late Roman amphorae that were once thrown into a crevice from a farm above. Barracuda, amberjacks or tuna sometimes pass along the wall.
