Cigliata di Tramontana
Also known as: Ciglia di Tramontana
Boats moor on about 8 m and divers swim seaward until a natural step marks the start of the drop-off, the 'cigliata'. The bottom alternates walls rich in life, with cracks for lobsters and moray eels, and rockfalls where groupers and octopus live. Sponges, tube anemones, crinoids and Astroides colour everything, and cowries hide in narrow crevices. La Gorgonia notes that Alicudi has no offshore shoals, so all its dives run close to the coast. Small grottoes and tunnels form between the rocks in the shallows.
