Riviera Maya Cenote Region

Mexico

The Riviera Maya cenote region, along the Caribbean coast between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, sits above one of the world's most extensive networks of flooded limestone caves and sinkholes (cenotes).

The Yucatan Peninsula holds thousands of cenotes connected to an extensive submerged cave system beneath the Riviera Maya, a coastal tourism corridor between Playa del Carmen and Tulum in Quintana Roo. Divers visit numerous cenotes in this area for cavern diving, which requires open-water certification, and for technical cave diving, which requires a dedicated cave-diving certification.
