Carwash
Also known as: Aktun Ha · Car Wash
The open pond is more than 50 m across and on average about 4 m deep, with lily pads, fish and turtles, and a small crocodile is sometimes seen. In the summer months an algae bloom clouds the top couple of metres and tints the light green. The cavern on the upstream side drops to about 15 m along a gold line between chestnut-coloured columns, and some small ancient pottery remains can be seen. Carwash was one of the first cenotes dived by visiting Florida cave divers in the early 1980s. Beyond the cavern, cave divers visit the Room of Tears with its delicate soda straws.
