Bay of Naples

Italy

Campanian gulf combining the sunken Roman ruins of Baia, the reefs and caves of Capri, Ischia and Procida, and the Punta Campanella marine reserve at the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula.

The Bay of Naples is a gulf of the Tyrrhenian Sea on the coast of Campania, bounded by Naples and Pozzuoli to the north, Mount Vesuvius to the east and the Sorrento Peninsula to the south, with the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida. Several protected areas make it a diving region. In the Phlegrean Fields, the Underwater Archaeological Park of Baia, created in 2002, protects Roman villas, baths and mosaics submerged by volcanic ground movement, at depths of about 5 to 13 metres. The Regno di Nettuno marine protected area covers the waters of Ischia and Procida. At the tip of the Sorrento Peninsula, the Punta Campanella marine reserve offers underwater grottoes and ancient ruins, and dive trips also go to Capri. Dive centres operate in Baia, Pozzuoli and on the Sorrento coast. Source: Wikipedia, Subaia, Lonely Planet, Divingaway
