Grotta della Pastizza
Also known as: Pastizza · Grotta Pastizza
A small rock that looks like a pastry, pastizza in Sicilian, rises in front of a large semi-submerged cave on the coast. Outside, Posidonia meadows and boulders lead to a wall reaching about 30 m with sponges, cup corals, nudibranchs, moray eels, octopus and a family of large groupers used to divers. Fragments of Roman amphorae lie among the rocks outside the cove. For cavern divers the site includes several shallow caves, among them the Grotta di San Bartolomeo, where divers surface in an air pocket beside a statue of Saint Bartholomew. The site is sheltered and shallow enough to be a favourite night dive, when slipper lobsters, crabs and cuttlefish come out.
