Ship Rock
Ship Rock stands alone in open water less than 2.5 km from Two Harbors, and its white, bird-stained peak looks like a ship under sail from afar. Below the water most sides fall steeply in ledges and boulder slopes to white sand at 30 to 40 m, while a shallower area on the south side, known as the Fish Bowl, suits less experienced divers. Huge numbers of blacksmith swirl in the kelp along with garibaldi, opaleye and sheephead, and angel sharks rest on the deep sand. The wooden schooner Diosa del Mar ran aground here in 1990 and its debris is scattered over the slope. Its open-water position means currents and wind can make it a demanding dive.
