Bird Rock
Bird Rock is a large rounded rock just inside Isthmus Harbor, white with bird droppings and easy to spot. Most boats anchor off its west end over a gently sloping shelf of 6 to 9 m, which is calm and clear enough for training and snorkelling. On the north side a wall drops steeply with undercuts, crevices and stands of gorgonians where horn sharks, octopus and lobsters hide. Further west at about 17 m an underwater arch makes a popular photo frame. The border of the Bird Rock marine conservation area runs through the reef, and sea lions increasingly use the rock.
