Casino Point Dive Park

Also known as: Casino Point · Avalon Underwater Park · Catalina Casino Dive Park · Casino Point Underwater Park · Avalon Dive Park

The park sits at Casino Point on the edge of Avalon and is entered by a set of concrete stairs straight into usually calm water, which makes it a classic training and first-dive site. It was laid out in the early 1960s and is a marine protected area, so the garibaldi, sheephead and kelp bass are unusually tame. Within a small area divers find kelp forest, boulder reef, walls and sand, plus several small wrecks scattered at different depths. A memorial to Jacques-Yves Cousteau lies at about 12 m, and giant black sea bass gather in the kelp during the summer. The park is also known as a good night dive.
