Le Formiche di Panarea
The Formiche barely break the surface and are a hazard for boats in rough seas. They are the eastern tips of an extensive shallow bank, and the dive circles the chain of rocks. Pale rock, red and yellow encrustations and clear water give the site the look of a bright pool, ideal for photography and for newly certified divers. Many fan mussels lie on the bottom, while white seabream, saddled seabream and small pelagic fish move in midwater. Further along, a slope of smooth rocks covered in sea urchins hides brown meagre, octopus and moray eels.
