Le Formiche di Lipari
The Formiche are only the emerged tips of a wide shoal of large rocks. Leaning against one another, the boulders create a maze of grottoes, passages and tunnels lined with orange Astroides, where groupers often shelter. Moray eels and octopus sit in the cracks, and schools of white seabream gather behind the rocks. The surrounding seagrass meadow hides sponges, nudibranchs, fan mussels and lobsters. The rocks lie in the channel between Lipari and Vulcano.
