Pietra Menalda

Pietra Menalda is one of the two stacks that guard the channel between Lipari and Vulcano. Divers moor on a plateau of about 12 m, descend to a second plateau near 32 m and circle the stack. Large groupers come close, and a pinnacle that rises from 40 m to a top at 16 m has a resident group of barracuda. White seabream and dentex patrol the area while moray eels and groupers hide in the cracks. The ascent follows a wall covered in yellow zoanthids and orange Astroides corals with parrotfish around.
