I Canaloni

The canyons were created by tongues of lava that ran from the mountain into the sea. Rock ridges starting at about 13 to 18 m lead to a vertical wall that drops to some 55 m, where a large vertical split rises from 50 to 27 m. Because of the depth and short bottom time only the most impressive of the four canyons is usually visited. Large groupers, golden groupers, moray eels and forkbeards hide in the cracks, while saddled seabream and black seabream swim in mid-water. Melon urchins, starfish and sea squirts cover the narrow walls.
