Garden Eel Cove
Également connu sous le nom de : Manta Heaven · Manta Ray Heaven
Garden Eel Cove lies in Makako Bay just off the Kona airport and is the main site of the famous manta ray night dive. After dark, divers kneel on the bottom around fixed lights at about 10 m that draw plankton, and manta rays sweep in to feed above them. During the day the site is a coral reef on a shelf that starts at about 6 m and slopes gently to a drop-off at about 12 m. The reef wall ends on a sandy bottom near 19 m where hundreds of garden eels sway out of the sand. Dolphins and the odd manta ray also turn up on afternoon dives.
