Suck 'Em Up
Also known as: Suck'em Up Lava Tube · Suckem-up · Suck'Em Up Cave
The main lava cavern at Suck 'Em Up has a wide arched entrance at about 6 m, with sunbeams falling through skylights onto the floor. The exit at the far end is small, and divers time their departure so that the surge sweeps them out, which gave the site its name. Guides then lead to Skull Cave, a large amphitheatre-like cavern with two 'eye socket' openings, where sponges and orange cup corals cover the walls and squirrelfish, pufferfish, porcupinefish and spiny lobsters hide. Whitetip reef sharks, moray eels, turtles and the occasional pod of spinner dolphins are seen around the site. The surge cavern is not for inexperienced divers, and the site cannot be dived in heavy weather.
