Golden Arches
Golden Arches is named after two thick lava arches formed by old lava tubes, and the first one is usually packed with a school of bright yellow reef fish. Divers swim through the first arch, cross the reef to the second and return along the drop-off; a torch helps to look into the holes in the walls and ceilings. A boulder field, sand patches and scattered coral heads surround the arches. Triggerfish, rockmover wrasses, whitemouth morays and octopus are typical, and Commerson's frogfish, leaf scorpionfish, reef sharks and passing dolphins are seen at times. Visibility improves with depth and distance from the surf zone, and the current can be strong on some days.
