Shaab Abu Nugar
Also known as: Abu Nugar
Abu Nugar lies 60 to 90 minutes by boat north of Hurghada. Dives are made on the south-eastern ergs (Shaab Iris), on the two large central ergs (Gota Abu Nugar) and on the north side of the tongue that points west from the main reef, where three ergs are especially recommended. The reef is built from a wide variety of hard corals, including table and brain corals, in an almost untouched state. Cleaning stations attract groupers and snappers, and moray eels, bluespotted rays, turtles and passing dolphins are seen. Once boats arrive, the reef is well sheltered and current is usually mild.
