Abu Hashish
Also known as: Abu Hasheesh
The dive site lies at the southern tip of the reef tongue, where a shelf between about 15 and 22 m leads to a steep, rather bare drop-off with excellent visibility. Divers leave the lagoon through a channel lined with table corals, follow the drop-off north past caves at around 30 m and return to finish among the long ergs of the lagoon. Jacks, barracuda, Spanish mackerel and whitetip reef sharks patrol the wall, and hammerheads appear now and then. Turtles, bluespotted rays, Spanish dancers and moray eels live on the shelf, and squid and juvenile barracuda in the lagoon. Global Divers translates the name as 'father of grass' after the seagrass found here.
