Banana Reef

Also known as: Gota Ben el Gebel · Gota Torfa el Shait · Shaab Farina

Swiss Wellness explains the alternative name Shaab Farina, 'dragonfly reef', by the reef's shape. Its sheltered south side, where boats moor, is naturally bare, so divers head for the outer reef. At the corner a fan-shaped boulder hosts a school of bannerfish, and to the west stand a pinnacle and a larger erg covered in pink, purple and lilac soft corals. North of the main reef the seabed drops beyond 20 m. Eagle rays, turtles and whitetip reef sharks visit, and current can be strong.
