Eagle Reef
Eagle Reef lies off the mainland side of Catalina west of Isthmus Cove, far enough from shore to have clearer water than the coves. It is a series of pinnacles, some reaching within a metre of the surface, separated by valleys and dropping in places to around 30 m. Kelp is thick and the mini-walls are covered with invertebrates, gorgonians and nudibranchs. The reef is one of the island's better lobster spots, and divers report numerous horn sharks. An almost constant current keeps life active, but it can become strong without warning.
