Shaab El Erg

Also known as: Dolphin House · Shaab Elerg

The reef opens to the south around a shallow lagoon dotted with ergs, and lies 90 minutes to two hours by boat from Hurghada. It is dived at the north point, along the east wall and most often at Gota Shaab El Erg on the south-western tip, where towers and coral blocks stand on a wide sandy plateau. Dolphins can be seen in the lagoon throughout the year, and manta rays gather at the north point roughly between January and March. Around the Gota live scorpionfish, groupers, snowflake morays, bluespotted rays and triggerfish, with whitetip reef sharks resting under table corals. Once there, the reef offers good anchorages in any weather.
