North Umm Gamar
Also known as: Umm Gamar North
Divers Hurghada describes North Umm Gamar as two places: the northern plateau, known for huge table corals, big fish and strong currents, and Halg Umm Gamar, 'the neck', a sheltered bay with a wall to the south, a slope to the north and two deep coral heads on the sand. The current arrives from the north and splits towards the west and east sides, so guides plan the route around the point where it divides. Black coral trees grow along the wall to the south, and a small cave lies at about 8 m below the reef top. The site is known for Spanish dancers that can be seen in daylight, usually between 15 and 20 m. Peacock and lunartail groupers, unicornfish and bannerfish are common.
