Erg Somaya
The reef slopes steeply to a sandy ledge between about 15 and 24 m before dropping beyond 50 m. Two pinnacles stand on the ledge, the northern one shaped like a pyramid and covered in purple soft corals. Between them, two caves at about 25 m and 32 m join into a chimney where a curtain of glassfish hangs in the water. Strong current is common, so the site is often dived as a drift that can be linked with the Small Giftun drift to the south. Batfish, barracuda, tuna, napoleon wrasse and turtles are regular sightings.
