Carnatic
The Carnatic was carrying passengers, mail, cotton, copper, wine and gold on her way to India when she struck the reef; part of the gold is said never to have been recovered. She lies on her port side along the reef, broken in the middle, with bow and stern still recognisable. The wooden decks rotted away long ago, leaving an open frame that lets in light and is easy to swim through. More than 150 years of growth have covered it with soft corals, sponges and clouds of glassfish. Divers often call it the most beautiful of the Abu Nuhas wrecks.
