Pelinaion
She was carrying iron ore from West Africa to Baltimore when she struck the reef about a mile offshore. The upright triple-expansion engine reaches to within about 10 ft of the surface, and the giant boilers and a spare propeller are clear landmarks. A tunnel through the reef lets divers pass beneath the hull and come out at the stern. Grunts and snappers school over the site, and barracuda and angelfish visit. The wreck is large enough that divers can lose their bearings, and it lies close to the Rita Zovetta.
