Punta Castagna
The dive starts on a pale shelf at about 10 m, where fine pumice from the old quarries has whitened every rock, a scene the dive centres compare to a snow-covered mountain spot or a dusty attic. Steep gullies cut through the edge and drop towards a wall whose foot cannot be seen. Around 35 to 40 m the gully rims carry large red gorgonian fans with anthias, and one source mentions a crack full of shrimps at about 35 to 37 m. Groupers, lobsters, moray eels and passing barracuda are reported. Visibility depends on calm seas in the preceding days, because swell lifts the fine white sediment.
