Green Island

Taiwan

Small volcanic island off Taitung with clear Kuroshio water, a fringing reef of more than 200 coral species, the giant Big Mushroom Coral and winter hammerhead encounters for experienced divers.

Green Island lies in the Pacific off Taiwan's southeast coast and is reached by ferry or a short flight from Taitung. The Kuroshio Current gives it clear water and a fringing reef with more than 200 coral species and around 300 fish species. Its best-known feature is the Big Mushroom Coral off Shilang, a coral colony about 12 metres tall and 31 metres wide. Other sites include Chaikou, a beginner area with built entry paths, Da Bai Sha with reef caves, the Pegasus wreck at 15 to 25 metres, and the artificial Steel Reef. From January to March hammerhead sharks gather at Shark Point, where strong currents limit dives to experienced divers. Many dive centres operate on the island, with the main season from May to October. Source: Wikipedia, Taiwan Outdoors, Dive O'Clock, Scuba.com
