Utility Pole Reef

Also known as: 電桿礁 (Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan)) · Electric Pole Reef

Taiwan's Fisheries Agency dropped the poles beside the left boundary marker of the Shilang protected area, and they now lie scattered over the sandy bottom. Local guides show it as an example of a poorly planned reef project, because the poles were placed in the island's garden eel habitat and the colony is said to have shrunk from about 800 to about 400 eels. Several sea cucumber species are the signature animals, and a school of barracuda is a near-certain sighting.
